Our blades are primarily hand-forged from high-carbon Damascus steel, crafted by layering and folding steel billets to create the distinctive flowing patterns you see on every blade. We also work with D2 tool steel and stainless steel for select pieces. All steels are chosen for their superior edge retention, toughness, and durability — built to perform, not just display.
Yes — every knife, axe, and steelcraft item is individually hand-forged by skilled artisans. No two pieces are exactly alike. From the blade geometry to the handle finish, each item is shaped, ground, heat-treated, and assembled by hand, which is why you'll notice subtle variations in pattern and texture that make your piece one-of-a-kind.
Absolutely. We offer custom knives and axes where you can choose your blade style, handle material (rosewood, buffalo horn, pinecone, stag, and more), engravings, and other finishing details. To keep your blade in top condition: hand-wash and dry immediately after use (never dishwasher), apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or blade oil periodically to prevent rust, and store in the included leather sheath or on a magnetic rack away from moisture. Sharpen using a whetstone or honing rod. With proper care, a JW SteelCrafts blade will last generations.
